‘Organic Language’ is a 128 page book, 203mm x 254mm (8" x 10"), printed internally in black and white on 100gsm wood free paper. The cover is printed in full colour on 350gsm art paper with a matt lamination.
The first section is really what it is all about: demonstrating, through phonetically expressive drawings of common English words, how the perception of our vocal sound, passing through the structures of our bodies, makes shapes and textures that tend to enact the meaning of each word.
This feature of English is not appreciated by the academic linguistic community, firstly, because this perception is unconscious in most adults, and secondly, the acquiring of literacy tends to objectify words as the two dimensional representation we see in writing, further dulling any conscious perception of this phenomenon.
The ‘Organic Language’ publication is paper back, but it consists of folded sections that are sewn — permitting hands-free reading. This is essential, as the action of forcibly holding open a book, tenses muscles and limits the possibility of feeling the bodily resonance of sound as you read the word pictures.
